Integrated Pipeline

Tarrant Regional Water District (TRWD) and Dallas Water Utilities (DWU) selected the team led by SAIC (formerly RW Beck, Inc.), to manage the agencies’ Integrated Pipeline project. TRWD and DWU are jointly pursuing the implementation of a water transmission project to deliver water from Lake Palestine, Richland-Chambers Reservoir, and Cedar Creek Reservoir to their service areas.  Major components of the project will include large-diameter water pipelines, pumping plants and water storage tanks.

The project is currently in the planning stage, which will result in approximate configurations and locations of project facilities.  Project construction is currently scheduled to begin in 2013.  When complete in 2018, the pipeline will be capable of conveying up to 350 million gallons of water per day; providing needed water supply redundancy and flexibility for the TRWD and DWU service areas.

SAIC tapped Ware & Associates to manage the project’s Diversity Affairs to ensure M/WBE companies are aware of the project and the available contracting and supply opportunities.  Ware is also tasked with identifying and engaging in the process local companies from the counties in the pipelines’ footprint.  In addition, Ware will manage Communication / Public Information for the project.

Dallas Water Utilities Accidental Release Program

Ware & Associates teamed with Montgomery Watson, Inc. to provide the public communication component for Dallas Water Utilities’ Accidental Release Prevention Program. The program included developing and implementing a plan to communicate with the citizens of Dallas in the event of an accidental release of hazardous materials.

Ware & Associates coordinated training classes through the Dallas Fire Department Hazardous Materials First Call Responders. The training was designed to educate accidental release responders on the physical and chemical properties and exposure reactions to specific chemicals in the event of an emergency. Decontamination wash-down procedure demonstrations and certification exams-practice were administered by the Fire Department.

Fort Worth Integrated Wastewater Management Program

Ware & Associates developed and implemented a public participation program for the six-year Fort Worth Integrated Wastewater Management Program. The City of Fort Worth renovated its wastewater system and the cost of water and property taxes were predicted to rise incrementally over a six year timeframe to accommodate the costs.  The agency facilitated events and activities to raise awareness of the renovations, educate the community of the need to raise rates and increase taxes over time, and to promote understanding of these changes.

Fort Worth Water Conservation

When the Fort Worth City Council adopted a new water conservation ordinance, Ware & Associates teamed with Lockwood, Andrews & Newman, Inc. to develop an education program for the public.  Water Department staff believed that the citizens of Fort Worth needed information about the technology and rate changes, and education about conservation initiatives.  The agency assisted department staff with developing partnerships with community outlets to reach target audiences and branding the program.
